DDB announced today that Amir Kassaei has been appointed as its new Global Creative Director. He moves to this post from his role as Creative Director of DDB in Berlin.Amir Kassaei has some very bold ideas and advice for modern businesses. I thoroughly recommend his blog, and in particular his two part "Manifesto of Successful Marketing". It will make very uncomfortable reading for marketeers in many companies, and you might be forgiven for thinking it is written by an idealistic arts student, rather than one of the world's top advertising executives. But Amir Kassaei has enjoyed a life that is far from the stereotype of the ‘adman'. He was born in Iran, and when he was 14 years old he was not at school thinking about girls and cigarettes. He was a child soldier, forced to fight in the Iran - Iraq war. He escaped in the trunk of a smuggler to Turkey, and thence found his way to Austria. He applied for asylum, worked ‘odd jobs' and eventually won Austrian citizenship. He is still only 43 years old.
